Los perros siempre han sido parte de la vida de Gerard y, desde 1976, especialmente los galgos afganos. Alrededor de 1985 comenzó a presentar perros y consiguió muchos campeonatos internacionales, principalmente en los Países Bajos, Bélgica y Alemania.
Cada vez más interesado en los perros, Gerard comenzó sus estudios cinológicos en 1992 y en 1995 realizó su primer examen para la raza Galgo Afgano. Diez años más tarde, en 2006, fue designado juez de todas las razas del grupo 10 de la FCI.
Actualmente también es juez de los grupos 5 y 1 de la FCI, algunas razas de los grupos 2, 3, 8 y 9 y tiene permitido juzgar BIS y Junior Handling. Gerard ha juzgado en muchos países europeos, en Estados Unidos, Australia y Asia en las exposiciones caninas nacionales e internacionales (incluidas las Exposiciones Europeas y Mundiales de la FCI).
Desde 1986 ha tenido y ha presentado Galgos Afganos con éxito, en este momento es copropietario de France Bulldogs.
Es Vicepresidente de la FCI y Presidente del Comité de la Exposición de la FCI Euro Sighthound.

Dogs have always been part of Gerard’s life and as from 1976 especially Afghan Hounds. Around 1985 he started to show dogs and had many (International) championships mostly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Becoming more and more interested in dogs, Gerard started to his cynological study in 1992 and in 1995 he did his first exam for the Afghan Hound. Ten years later, 2006, he is judge of all FCI group 10 breeds. At this moment he is also group judge of FCI group 5, FCI group 1, some breeds of group 2, 3, 8, 9 and allowed to judge BIS and Junior Handling. Gerard judged in many European countries, America, Australia and Asia at national and international Dog shows (including FCI European and FCI World Dog Shows) Champion of Champion shows, many breed specialties and title shows.
Since 1986 he was owner and showed successfully Afghans Hounds, on this moment he is co-owner from France Bulldogs.
